MAIN/THE LATEST
My formal education started at Red Rocks Community College in Golden, Colorado. There I majored in Fine Arts with an emphasis in drawing. I then transfered to the Institute of Art in Colorado, and changed my major to Animation. I soon found that fine arts was too much a part of me, and quit after a year. I am currently painting again, and will graduate with a B.F.A. in Painting at Metropolitan State College of Denver. It's taken me a while to get where I am, but I have found a deeper appreciation for my craft through the time and observation of not only myself on a personal level, but the maturation of the formal aspect of my work. Through art, I have found how to approach unique problems, and using a creative eye to work through to a meaningful solution. So too, this method has served me well in other arenas of my life. By means of varied medium, I have begun to walk down the path of the artist, and have only yet to explore the rich and mysterious world of visual language. Although I have a deep appreciation for ALL historical artistic movements, I have always been deeply drawn to figurative and narrative painting and drawing. From Rubens to Bacon, Brueghel to James Jean, Rembrandt to Rivera, I love the potentiality symbolism has to create powerful narrative. Careful examination of individuality of face and body has warranted in my soul; an aching life-long pursuit of the figure and the artistic interpretation of it.
DEUCE GATES July 1999 - November 2008 You were the best and sweetest dog we could ever have hoped for. You deeply enriched our lives, and made us smile everyday you were with us. Rest in peace, and may your next journey be a joyful one. We love you. -Mom, Dad, and Mason
